Brigadoon – Health Living is a Family Affair

In March 2013, we announced a $25,000 grant to Brigadoon to develop a health and wellness camp for children and their families seeking support in living active, healthier lifestyles.

Brigadoon’s Health & Wellness Family Camp brought together children aged 9 to 12 who are living with obesity or excess weight and their siblings and parents in a fun, educational and supportive residential camp setting.  The camp focused on the family experience in addressing weight control through nutrition, physical activity, social and psychological support, along with resources to improve healthy eating and activity levels at home.

The program for the new camp was being developed by an interdisciplinary team of health professionals with representatives from the IWK Health Centre and Dalhousie University.

“With help from the planning committee and our chef, we are able to educate families and give them the tools they need to work towards a lifestyle of healthy eating, activity and the prevention of type 2 diabetes,” says Dave Graham, Executive Director of Brigadoon.

About Brigadoon
