Developing a University Team Approach to Student Mental Health

10/30/2012

In October 2013, the Atlantic Association of Universities (AAU) and Medavie Health Foundation were pleased to present Making the Connection:  Improving university student mental health services through collaboration, cooperation and partnership at Mount Saint Vincent University. Aimed at university staff, the conference focused on the delivery of student mental health services, student leaders and mental health services officials from local health authorities across the region.

The one-day program continues the dialogue started at last year’s gathering of the region’s universities at Mount Allison by sharing best practices, advancing development of regional collaborative opportunities and creating partnerships with local health authorities.

The 2012 Making the Connection: Developing a University Team Approach to Student Mental Health Care  featured moderated panel discussions and sessions on the effective management of student mental health issues both as individual institutions and collaboratively.

A notable outcome of the 2012 conference was Memorial University’s commitment to continuing the conference dialogue among its fellow universities. Memorial will utilize its Distance Education and Learning Resources to engage university faculty, staff and students in a dialogue on student mental health care.
