Child and Youth Mental Health
Mental health is the fastest growing category of disability costs, including the long term economic costs of health care, disability claims and lost productivity. By 2020 it is expected that depression will rank second only to heart disease as the leading cause of disability in Canada. Most mental disorders – about 70% – can be diagnosed before age 25, with the onset of most mental health issues occurring in young childhood and adolescence.
Medavie Health Foundation supports initiatives and develops partnerships that include early detection and stigma reduction through education and awareness, as well as ensuring individuals receive the support they need to live productive, fulfilling lives in the community.
