Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
It is estimated that at any given time, one in 10 Canadians is experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), with the prevalence rate of lifetime PTSD at 9.2%. PTSD is often associated with veterans, first responders and other emergency personnel, but families of victims can also develop PTSD, as well as those who have experienced a violent crime, sexual violence, or witnessed a natural disaster. PTSD is a mental illness that can seriously disrupt a person’s life, for children, youth and adults.
Medavie Health Foundation supports initiatives and develops partnerships that focus on intervention and recovery, for both victims and their families, so they receive the help they need in leading healthy, productive lives.
