New Medavie Scholarship To Assist Youth Pursuing Post-secondary Studies

05/11/2017

Dartmouth, NS – Medavie is launching a new scholarship to support youth pursuing post-secondary education. The $5,000 Medavie Scholarship Honouring Pierre-Yves Julien will be awarded annually to a youth who has overcome adversity related to mental health and is pursuing a health program.

Pierre-Yves Julien is the former CEO of Medavie and a founding member of the Medavie Health Foundation who retired in 2016. He was a steward of our shared vision to improve the health of Canadians. It was through this vision that the Foundation, and our aspirations to address some of our country’s most pressing physical and mental health care changes, was established.

“The Medavie Scholarship is a way for us to directly support a youth who has overcome obstacles related to mental health, either through their own lived experience or that of a family member, and is pursuing higher education. Our youth are the leaders of tomorrow, and this award provides financial assistance in helping them achieve their goal of leading a fulfilling and productive life. It’s also a fitting way for us to recognize Pierre-Yves, whose leadership and contributions have been invaluable to Medavie through the years. His legacy will live on through this scholarship.”
 Bernard Lord, CEO, Medavie

Applications for the award, which is being administered by the Medavie Health Foundation, will be accepted until June 30, 2017. For program and application details, please visit the “Scholarship” section on our website.

About Medavie
Medavie is a health company. We integrate benefits management, health management and health care delivery through two operating companies, Medavie Blue Cross and Medavie EMS. Together, with our more than 5,500 employees, we are committed to providing innovative solutions that will help build a healthy Canada. And from our perspective, this will require Canadians to think about health care differently.

With over one million cardholders and the country’s leading Blue Cross Plan, Medavie Blue Cross is a not-for-profit organization that provides health, dental, travel, life and income replacement products to small and large companies and individual customers. We also administer various government sponsored health programs on behalf of provincial and federal governments, including Veterans Affairs Canada, and Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada.

Medavie Health Services, a primary health care solutions organization, manages a number of subsidiary companies in the fields of pre-hospital emergency medical services (EMS), mobile integrated health, telehealth medical communications, public safety delivery and clinical training. These services are provided by members of the Medavie Health Services Group of Companies through long-term and performance-based contracts. Medavie Health Services is currently contracted to provide EMS services in six Canadian provinces, and in Massachusetts, making it the largest private provider of EMS management services in Canada.

As a not-for-profit company, Medavie is proud to commit an annual social dividend to the Medavie Health Foundation. The Foundation supports and promotes innovative and evidence-based solutions to address some of our country’s most pressing physical and mental health care challenges, with a focus on child and youth mental health, post-traumatic stress disorder, and type 2 diabetes. It aims to bring organizations and communities together through collaborative multi-year partnerships and to support grassroots, community-based initiatives through an annual grants program.
